David Burnett
David Burnett is a photojournalist with more than four decades of work covering news, people and some of the most important events of recent times. His images are of history unfolding: war, sport, politics, the famous, the infamous and the everyday man.
He is a co-founder of
Contact Press Images and in a recent issue of American Photo Magazine he was named one of the “100 Most Important People in Photography”. He has been a contract photographer for
TIME since 2003, reprising a position he held for 15 years in the 1970s and 80s.
David has won virtually every award in the field of magazine photojournalism including The Robert Capa Gold Medal (Overseas Press Club) 1974, The Best Campaign Picture - Road to the White House (Pict. of the Year, Int'l) 2009 and The Olivier Rebbot Award (Overseas Press Club) Best Reporting from abroad 1985 and 2010.
He has twice been a juror in the prestigious World Press Photo contest in Amsterdam, chairing the board once. In 2007, he taught at the World Press Photo "Joop Swart MasterClass", leading ten emerging photographers in their quest for new direction.
